I thought this was Marsh Marigold at first, but it is actually the rare Appalachian Avens, also known as Spreading Avens (Geum radiatum). This plant occurs only on the high ridges of a few mountaintops in Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina and is federally protected as an endangered species. The place I found it in is actually a planted site, but I've been told just down the trail there are some growing wild as well.
