Notoclinus fenestratus (Forster 1801)

Inhabits rockpools and subtidal areas. Found among large brown algae. Feeds on algal dwelling crustaceans and small fish.

Adults are found among large brown algae in rock pools and subtidal areas. They feed on algal dwelling crustaceans and small fish (Ref. 9003). Eggs are hemispherical and covered with numerous sticky threads that anchor them in the algae on the nesting sites (Ref. 240). Larvae are planktonic which occur primarily in shallow, nearshore waters (Ref. 94114).

The New Zealand topknot, Notoclinus fenestratus, is a triplefin of the genus Notoclinus, found around the North Island of New Zealand in reef areas of broken rock and brown seaweed.
