They are native to Rio Grande Do Sul, Santa Catarina, Pantanal, Amazônia, Ceará, Maranhao, U.S. Virgin Islands, Pacific Basin excluding Hawaii, Sergipe, SãO Paulo, Pampa, Alagoas, Bahia, Pará, Paraná, Tocantins, Puerto Rico, Minas Gerais, Cerrado, Mata Atlântica, Caatinga, Distrito Federal, GoiáS, ParaíBa, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Acre (Brazil), Mato Grosso, and Rio De Janeiro. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Zebra Longwing, Long-tailed Skipper, Common Eastern Bumblebee, and (page not found). Individuals can grow to 1.9 m.
