Not rock-bound, may migrate through the very shallow waters of the lake. Although the gut contents indicate a shrimp menu, this species has been known to ambush young cichlids. A substrate spawner which has often been observed to spawn in empty snail shells found on the sand floor (Ref. 7343).

Neolamprologus fasciatus

Neolamprologus fasciatus is a species of cichlid endemic to Lake Tanganyika. This species spawns in empty snail shells. This species can reach a length of 15 centimetres (5.9 in) TL. This species can also be found in the aquarium trade.[2] They are piscivores and their prey includes the cichlid fish Variabilichromis moorii.[3]
