Asparagus officinalis (garden asparagus) is a species of perennial herb in the family Asparagaceae. It has a self-supporting growth form. It is native to Armenia, Lebanon, Hungary, Tunisia, Greece, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Algeria, Iran, France, Turkey, Russia, Yugoslavia, Poland, Afghanistan, Romania, Moldova, Denmark, Morocco, Spain, Georgia, the Netherlands, Albania, Belgium, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, China, Mongolia, Germany, Syria, and Austria. It has simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Common asparagus beetle. It is a photoautotroph. Individuals can grow to 0.69 m.
