Description of Glaucoma macrostoma

Tetrahymenid ciliate, 30-50 micrometres long. Similar to Glaucoma scintillans, but with larger mouth and pharynx. Somatic cilia short, uniform, densely striated. Mouth an elongated ellipse, slightly anterior of the equator. One large undulating membrane on right edge of mouth, and three membranelles on left. Contractile vacuole central, macronucleus spherical. Bacterivore, freshwater.
