1. Aecia mostly hypophyllous, scattered unevenly over the surface of the leaf, often in groups, 0.4-2.5 mm. across, cupulate, low, 0.1-0.4 mm. in diameter; peridium pale, the margm somewhat revolute, finely erose; peridial cells in radial section square or oblong, 15-21 by 1624 M; abutted or overlapping only moderately, the outer wall 6-8 ^ thick, smooth, transversely striate, the inner wall thinner, 2,-5 ii, moderately verrucose; aeciospores angulargloboid, oblong, or ellipsoid, 12-16 by 13-19 m; waU pale-yellow or colorless, thin, 1-1.5 m, mmutely verrucose, appearing smooth when wet.
