Calcarea (Calcareous Sponges ) is a group of sponges. There are 774 species of calcareous sponges , in 82 genera and 23 families. This group has been around since the Cambrian Series 2 Epoch. Calcareous Sponges have sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction; they are a protogynous hermaphrodite. They are a sessile animal.
