Leaves erect or ascending, mostly 12-36 cm. long, or some of "the early ones shorter, the blades narrowly oblong or linear-oblong to spatulate, coarsely and rather regularly dentate with black-tipped teeth, glandular-ciliolate, gradually narrowed into margined petiole-like bases; scapes 20-90 cm. tall, softly glandular-pubescent, paniculately branched above, the lower branches subtended by somewhat foliaceous bracts; cymules few-flowered, open; sepals oblong to ovate-oblong, 1-1.5 mm. long, commonly sparingly glandular-ciliate, reflexed; petals white with a yellow blotch below the middle, oblong or elliptic to oblongovate, each narrowed into a short claw-like base ; filaments clavate ; follicles widely spreading at maturity, 7-8 mm. long, green.
Type locality : Carolina.
Distribution : Mountains, Pennsylvania to North Carolina and Tennessee.
