Heracleum sphondylium (eltrot) is a herbaceous species of plant in the family Apiaceae, with a self-supporting growth habit. It has simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Mesembrina meridiana (Linnaeus 1758), Athalia rosae, Anthophila fabriciana Linnaeus 1767, and Synanthedon formicaeformis Esper 1779. It is a photoautotroph.
