Phaegoptera nexoides Schaus

[This is a junior synonym of Phaegoptera schafferi Schaus 1892, p. 280, teste Hampson, 1901a, p. 125.]

Phaegoptera nexoides Schaus, 1896, p. 140.

Forewing 29.0 mm. Head greyish brown, with two deep yellow patches, one anterior, the other posterior, to base of each antenna. Tegulae greyish brown, with deep yellow posterior margin. Patagia white dorsolaterally, with greyish brown fringe; greyish brown on side next to wing base, with two orange markings. Rest of thorax greyish brown and deep yellow. Forewing white with deep yellow markings, edged with narrow area of dark greyish brown and broad area of greyish brown. Hindwing mainly yellowish white, but light greyish brown distally and anally; row of indistinct, yellow, neural, terminal spots. Dorsal surface of abdomen chiefly deep yellow, but greyish brown anteromedially and with greyish brown transverse bar at posteromedial margin of segments 5 and 6, and dark-edged greyish brown patch at lateral margin of each segment. Ventral surface of abdomen light greyish brown, with brown-edged, deep yellow lateral marking at each side of every segment.

Described from an unspecified number of specimens from São Paulo, Brazil. There are no specimens other than the type in the USNM collection.
