Amerotyphlops is a genus of snakes in the family Typhlopidae.

Distribution

The 19 species of this genus are found from Mexico through South America.^[1]

Amerotyphlops es un género de serpientes ciegas perteneciente a la familia Typhlopidae. Se distribuyen por América, desde México hasta Argentina; también en el sur de las islas de Barlovento (Granada y Trinidad y Tobago).

Amerotyphlops adalah marga ular buta yang menyebar di Amerika Latin. Marga ini memiliki anggota sekitar 15 spesies.

Spesies tipe adalah Typhlops brongersmianus Vanzolini, 1976 (= T. brongersmai; Vanzolini, 1972).

Etimologi

Dari perkataan americanus (~a, ~um; yang berarti ‘dari Amerika’) dan kata benda bahasa Gerika typhlops (si buta)^[1]. Nama ini juga menggambarkan agihan geografis kelompok ular ini, yakni Benua Amerika^[2].

Pengenalan

Amerotyphlops dibedakan dari kelompok ular buta lain yang menjadi kerabatnya berdasarkan kombinasi karakter-karakter berikut:^[2]

• berukuran kecil hingga besar (panjang total 38–522 mm)
• tubuh gemuk hingga ramping (rasio panjang/lebar tubuh 16–77; akan tetapi rata-rata antara 20–50)
• sisik-sisik di tengah badan dalam 16–22 deret; dengan atau tanpa reduksi (penyusutan jumlah) baik mendekati kepala ataupun mendekati ekor
• 169–566 deret sisik dorsal di sepanjang tubuh
• berekor pendek hingga relatif panjang (0.7–4.3% dari panjang total) dengan 5–15 deret sisik subkaudal (rasio panjang/lebar ekor antara 0.8–1.6), dengan duri ujung ekor kecil.
• profil kepala dari sisi dorsal dan lateral membulat
• perisai rostral oval sempit hingga sedang (0.22–0.56 lebar kepala)
• perisai preokular bersinggungan dengan perisai supralabial (bibir atas) ke-2 dan ke-3 (tipe T-III)
• mata berukuran kecil, dengan pupil yang terlihat jelas atau hanya samar-samar di balik sisik
• perisai post-okular berjumlah 1–3.

Warna di sisi dorsal (punggung) cokelat kekuningan hingga hitam, biasanya dengan warna kuning tak berbintik di sisi ventral (perut). Moncong dan ekor berwarna kuning terang, kadang kala dengan bintik terang di ujung moncong putih atau cincin ekor berwarna kuning atau putih.^[2]

Agihan

Marga ini menyebar di Amerika Latin, mulai dari Meksiko hingga Argentina bagian utara.^[1][2]
