Matsubaraea fusiforme és una espècie de peix i l'única del gènere Matsubaraea.[6]
Etimologia
El nom del gènere, Matsubaraea, fa referència a l'ictiòleg japonès Shinnosuke Matsubara.[7]

Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica
És un peix marí, demersal (entre 4 i 5 m de fondària)[9] i de clima subtropical (35°N-28°S, 98°E-154°E), el qual viu al Pacífic occidental: els fons sorrencs al llarg de les costes[8] del Japó,[8][10][11][12][13][14] el Vietnam,[15][16] Tailàndia,[8][17] les illes Filipines[8][18] i Austràlia (Queensland),[19][20][21][22][23] incloent-hi el mar del Japó[24] i el golf de Siam.[25][4][7][26]
Observacions
És inofensiu per als humans[7] i el seu índex de vulnerabilitat és baix (17 de 100).[27]
