Filament Cusk

Rather elongate body with pointed head; eye diameter equal to or longer than snout; jaw teeth granular in narrow bands; opercular spine sharp and straight; 1-3 sharp spines on lower margin of preopercle; median basibranchial tooth patch 1; developed rakers on anterior gill arch 27-42; pectoral fins low on the body; each pelvic fin with 1 ray longer than head; precaudal vertebrae 13.

Benthopelagic at bathyal depth (Ref. 56809). Found on the continental slope (Ref. 75154). Common species (Ref. 34024). Oviparous, with oval pelagic eggs floating in a gelatinous mass (Ref. 205).

主要分布於印度西太平洋新喀里多尼亞至日本海域，臺灣僅分布在南中國海海域。

深海魚類，不具經濟價值。

體圓而延長，近尾部處則是逐漸側扁。吻端圓鈍。鰓蓋骨後方有一枚強棘，前鰓骨的下方具1-3枚強棘。基鰓骨中央具一狹長形齒板，眼大，眼徑約略等於或大於吻長。體被圓鱗。第一鰓弓具27-42根發達的鰓耙。背鰭和臀鰭非常的長，後部軟條與尾鰭相連。背鰭鰭條數94-98，臀鰭鰭條數 75-80；腹鰭位於前鰓蓋下方，為一條延長絲狀鰭，長度長於頭長；胸鰭鰭條數21-23。體黃褐色。

為棲息於水深300-1000公尺深的深海魚類，生態習性所知甚少。

The filament cusk (Homostolus acer) is a species of cusk-eel found in the western Pacific Ocean from the waters off of Japan to Australia and New Caledonia where it occurs at depths of from 300 to 1,000 metres (980 to 3,280 ft). This species grows to a length of 18.4 centimetres (7.2 in) SL and is of minor importance to commercial fisheries. It is the only known member of its genus.
