Comprehensive Description

Ground colour of carapace and abdominal segments yellow; purple spots on epigastric and mesogastric regions; purple band along cervical groove, lateral margins of branchial regions and posterior border of carapace. Rostrum and supraocular spines orange. Spines on carapace surface reddish. Chelipeds orange, with whitish spots; distal half of fingers whitish; one red spot on hand near base of movable finger. Walking legs whitish.

Diagnostic Description

Dorsal surface of carapace with row of epigastric spines and one parahepatic spine, with moderately dense striae; anterolateral spine not reaching the level of the sinus between rostral and supraocular spines. Antennular basal article with distomesial spine as long as distolateral spine. Fourth sternite contiguous with entire posterior margin of third sternite. Cheliped fingers less than 2 times as long as palm. Pereopods 2-4 propodi extensor margin without spines.

Babamunida javieri is a species of squat lobster in the family Munididae.[1][2][3] It is found off of New Caledonia, the Chesterfield Islands, and the Matthew and Hunter Islands, at depths between about 280 and 440 metres (920 and 1,440 ft).[4]
