Locomotive amoebae usually oblong with an anteriolateral crescent. Cells with a pellicle-like layer, or skin, which can be smooth, wrinkled or ridged. Cell coat thick usually as an amorphous glycocalyx but can be as a cuticle or filamentous layer. Most uninucleate but one genus binucleate and one multinucleate. Most showing a diversity of nuclear configurations.
