It is native to Guinea, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, Yemen, Chad, Mali, Eritrea, Angola, Djibouti, Namibia, Saudi Arabia, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Tunisia, The Gambia, Sudan, Niger, Benin, Oman, South Africa, Libya, Senegal, Ghana, Lesotho, Morocco, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Botswana, Kenya, Egypt, Cameroon, Zambia, and the Central African Republic. It is a solitary, nocturnal insectivore. Individuals are known to live for 408 months and can grow to 2000 g. Reproduction is dioecious. Common Genet relies on arboreal (locomotion) to move around.
