Herbs or subshrubs, plant erect, (15-) 25-50 (-60) cm tall. Stems usually simple, but sometimes branched, densely white, floccose to tomentose. Leaves alternate, sessile, with acute apex, leathery, entire, 1-3-veined, white tomentose on both sides, upper ones linear lanceolate, 20-45 x 7-15 (-20) mm, lower leaves obovate or lanceolate, subadnate to the stem, (25-) 30-60 (-75) x 10-25 mm. Capitula 3-5 mm in diameter in dense clusters of terminal as well as axillary corymbs on 20-30 mm long peduncles; axillary corymbs usually shorter than terminal ones, sometimes peduncle very short or almost absent in axillary corymbs; phyllaries 5-8-seriate, outer ones broadly ovate, densely hairy outside, acute, 2.5-3.5 (-4) x c. 2 mm, scarious, inner ones elliptic, lanceolate, ungiculate, ± woolly at the base, silvery white, longer than the outer one. Capitula predominantly female, with 8-10 bisexual, tubular florets (functionally male) and c. 100 filiform, female florets. Corolla of female florets light yellow, 2-3 mm long; those of bisexual florets with glandular teeth, 2.5-3 mm long. Stigma of female florets filiform and those of bisexual floret capitate. Cypselas c. 0.5 mm long, sparsely pappilose; pappus setae silky, white.

Habitat

A fairly common and distinct species, easily recognized from other Anaphalis species by its leathery leaves and lateral corymbs or glomerules. Grows between 900-2600 m, in moist shady areas.
