Lepus europaeus (Brown Hare, European Hare) is a species of mammals in the family Leporidae. They are native to Latvia, Croatia, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Turkey, Slovenia, Israel, France, Germany, Finland, Greece, Switzerland, Poland, Slovakia, Albania, Denmark, Moldova, Estonia, Macedonia, The Netherlands, Liechtenstein, Iran, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Spain, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Belarus, the Palearctic, Belgium, Syria, Serbia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Iraq, Ukraine, Italy, Lithuania, and Yugoslavia. They are solitary, nocturnal herbivores. Individuals are known to live for 144 months and can grow to 526 mm. Reproduction is viviparous. They have parental care (female provides care). They rely on running and saltation to move around.
