Pistia stratiotes (Water Lettuce) is a species of perennial herb in the family Araceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to Sergipe, Rio De Janeiro, Mato Grosso Do Sul, SãO Paulo, Pernambuco, GoiáS, Middle America, Santa Catarina, ParaíBa, Rio Grande Do Sul, U.S. Virgin Islands, Atlantic And Gulf Coastal Plain (Agcp), South America, Paraná, Ceará, Alagoas, The Contiguous United States, Pantanal, Pará, Rio Grande Do Norte, Amazônia, Amapá, Maranhao, Puerto Rico, Piauí, Bahia, Espirito Santo, Caatinga, Minas Gerais, Acre (Brazil), Cerrado, Mata Atlântica, and Mato Grosso. They have simple, broad leaves. Individuals can grow to 0.2 m.
