Cyperus surinamensis (Tropical Flatsedge) is a species of perennial herb in the family sedges. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to Pampa, The Contiguous United States, Pará, Amapá, Alagoas, Rio Grande Do Sul, Minas Gerais, Mata Atlântica, Amazônia, Paraná, Pernambuco, Cerrado, SãO Paulo, Caatinga, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Acre (Brazil), ParaíBa, Piauí, Bahia, Maranhao, GoiáS, Sergipe, Puerto Rico, Ceará, Tocantins, Distrito Federal, Mato Grosso, Espirito Santo, U.S. Virgin Islands, Roraima, Rio Grande Do Norte, Santa Catarina, Rio De Janeiro, Pantanal, and RondôNia. They have simple, broad leaves.
