Schizachyrium sanguineum (Crimson Bluestem) is a species of perennial grass in the family True grasses. It has a self-supporting growth form. It is native to the contiguous United States, the contiguous United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico, eastern north america, Paraná, Goiás, São Paulo, Mata Atlântica, Pará, Amazônia, Rondônia, Cerrado, Rio Grande do Sul, Tocantins, Pernambuco, Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, Amazônia, Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Amapá, Roraima, Bahia, Pampa, Caatinga, Distrito Federal, Maranhao, and Mato Grosso do Sul. Crimson Bluestem has simple, broad leaves. It is a photoautotroph. Individuals can grow to 1.6 m.
