Brief Summary

provided by EOL authors
We once thought nothing could live in boiling hot temperatures. We were wrong. Methanopyrus kandleri is one of the most extreme creatures on Earth. It survives in 252°F temperatures in vents on the ocean floor. It is part of a group of single-celled organisms called archaea. Archaea have also been found in hot springs, oil wells, and soil.
