Substratum: soil.Place: aven ridge, Mala Gora place, west and central part of the plateau, Trnovski gozd mountains, Vipavsko, Slovenia EC. Comment: Narcissus radiiflorus are wonderful plants. They are for centuries an object of admiration among Slovenian people, which has resulted in over twenty common names known in my county. Their sometimes massive occurrences provide unforgettable vistas. Narcissus radiiflorus is a seriously endangered species in Slovenia. Not so much because of 'lovers' of flowers, who pick them sometimes without any considerations, but because their habitat is disappearing. There are two opposite reasons for that: either mountain grassland is used intensively and fertilized too much (plants are unfortunatelly sensitive to fertilization) or, on the other hand, grassland is abandoned and is gradually overgrown with bushes and trees that is it is on its natural way to become forest.Genus Narcissus is taxonomically a difficult one. Among others, many synonyms for Narcissus radiiflorus prove that. There exist many horticultural varieties developed from these wild plants, which frequently escape gardens. As a result, distinction between Narcissus radiiflorus and similar Narcissus poeticus is sometimes impossible since intermediate plants occur quite often.Protected according to: Uredba o zavarovanih prostoiveih rastlinskih vrstah, poglavje A, Uradni list RS, t. 46/2004 (Regulation of protected wild plants, chapter A, Official Gazette of Republic Slovenia, no. 46/2004), (2004). Pravilnik o uvrstitvi ogroenih rastlinskih in ivalskih vrst v rdei seznam, Uradni list RS, t. 82/2002 (Regulation of enlisting of endangered plant and animal species onto Red List, Official Gazette of Republic Slovenia, no. 82/2002) (2002). Enlisted in the Slovene Red List of rare and endangered species, marked by "V" representing a vulnerable species.Ref.:(1) A.
