Description: English: Introduced perennial sedge with slender rhizomes which form woody tubers 5–10 mm wide. Culms are 3-angled and 15–30 (occasionally to 60) cm tall. Leaves are shorter than the culms and 2–6 mm wide. Flowerheads are mostly simple with 3–9 primary branches to 10 cm long; involucral bracts are leaf-like, 2–4 in number and not or slightly exceeding the flowerhead. Spikelets are flattened, 3–10 per spike and 10-40-flowered. Flowers in spring and summer. A native of Africa and Asia, it is a weed in disturbed situations; mostly around habitation, but occasionally infesting crops. Date: 2 September 2020, 11:55:11.
