lanceolate, attenuate, the outer 2 scales long-hairy, more than one half the length of the basal hairs, the inner scales colored or uncolored, the fourth scale entire, or sometimes minutely 2-toothed, bearing a straight or somewhat flexuous awn 10-12 mm. long, the base not spiral, the enclosed flower cleistogamous.
Type locality : Brazil.
Distribution: Mexico ; also in South America.
