Chimarra (Curgia) moesta Banks, 1924:449.—Fischer, 1961:67.—Flint, 1967b:4 [figure of female genitalia attributed erroneously to holotype].

Chimarra (Curgia) alayoi Botosaneanu, 1980:96 [new synonymy].

MATERIAL EXAMINED.—“Cuba, Ch. Wright,” “MCZ Type 14876,” holotype (MCZ). PCIA. PINAR DEL RIO, Arroyo del Pinar del Viñales [“a very clear and fast flowing brook, found in a pine forest very near Viñales”] [no date], P. Alayo, allotype, 1 paratype (NMNH).

ETYMOLOGY.—Probably from the Latin moestus (“sorrowful”), in allusion to its somber color.
