A tree up to about 10 m. in height, with brownish or grayish-brown bark ; branches of the hiflorescence usually bearing close-set pustule-like glands, and puberuleut; leaves alternate, digitately 3-5-foliolate ; leaflets oblong to oblong-oval, or sometimes obovate, 6-17 cm. long, 2.8-7 cm. broad, glabrous, rounded or obtuse at the apex, rounded or cuneate and often l nequilateral at the base ; flowers 6.5-8 mm. in diameter, in terminal, many-flowered corvmbiform panicles; sepals orbicular-ovate to nearly orbicular, unequal, imbricate, ciliolate, minutely puberulent externally ; petals oblong to oblong-elliptic, occasionally oblong-ovate, 2.8-4 mm. long, 2-2.5 mm. broad, yellowish, rounded or obtuse at the apex, spreading, minutely puberulent externally and glandular-dotted ; filaments subulate, accumbent in the shallow grooves of the disk ; disk 2.6-3 mm. in diameter ; mature capsule 4-5 cm. broad, 5-beaked at the apex, coarsely wrinkled and often bearing a few obtuse, compressed tubercles 2-5 mm. in length ; seeds brown or somewhat blackish-brown, obliquely compressed deltoid-ovoid, short-beaked, about 1-1.3 cm. long, 6.5-9 mm. broad, lustrous.
Type locality : Jamaica.
Distribution : Jamaica ; also reported from Yucatan.
