Stemless succulent, suckering from the base forming small colonies. Leaves with greenish-yellow sap, 5-25 in a basal rosette, smooth or very slightly rough, linear, 14.5–36 cm long and c.2 cm wide at base; upper surface mostly concave, slighty channeled towards the apex, pale to dark green to reddish-brown, marked with pale stripes or blotches sometimes arranged in wavy bands; margin with small, hardly spiny teeth 0.1–1.5 mm long. Inflorescence singly or rarely two to a rosette, erect up to 55 cm high, 1–4-branched with laxly 5–35-flowered cylindric racemes, 5–15 cm long up to 6.5 cm wide; pedicels 7–16 mm long. Flowers pale reddish to pale orange-scarlet, slightly curving downwards or hanging vertically, 20–33 mm long 4.5–7 mm across the ovary, constricted to 3.5–4 mm above the ovary, widening to at about the middle; filaments pale yellow as long as the perianth, anthers brown, exserted 0.5–1.5 mm. Fruit an more or less elliptic capsule, c. 23 mm long,yellow-green to brownish-green before ripening, dehiscent.
