In shore. pools along Baltic Sea (Germany, Finland), Norwegian Sea (Norway), Sea of Asov (the Ukraine); in Vaueheria carpets and among algae in inner brackish waters (Denmark, Germany), in freshwater brook among Callitriche (the Netherlands).

Morphology

Body stout, slightly curved in lateral view; transparent. Rostrum broad, short. Trunk with lateral sulci. Tail short. Toes relatively long, stout, gradually tapering, points acute; decurved ventrally, in lateral view slightly out curved. Colourless eyespots at base of rostrum.

Trophi strongly asymmetrical. Outer margins of rami straight or slightly concave for more than 1/2 their length. Median opening broad. Right ramus anteriorly bent into a huge, semi-circular, acute tooth; a straight, spiny, triangular alula near base of ramus. Left ramus abruptly narrowing anteriorly to a slightly incurved blunt tip; alula minute or absent. Fulcrum c. 3/5 ramus length; in lateral view with broad base, tapering posteriorly, split into large ventral part and smaller, shorter dorsal part. Right uncus 3-branched, with very long apical tooth, resting on crescent-shaped anterior section of ramus, and long ventral tooth with·short dorsal prominence basally, grasping external edge of ramus. Left uncus an irregular, hollow structure with long, slender apical tooth. Manubria fairly slender, anteriorly slightly expanded and incurved; left manubrium slightly out curved posteriorly, right ± undulate, slightly incurved posteriorly.
