Description of Acetohalobium

provided by BioPedia
Halophilic bacterium, can survive in high concentratioons of salt by tolerating high internal salt concentrations. Metabolically diverse can grow anaerobically as a chemolithotroph, producing acetate from hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Type species: Acetohalobium arabaticum Zhilina and Zavarzin 1990. Described by ZHILINA T.N) and ZAVARZIN G.A. (1990). A new extremely halophilic homoacetogen bacteria Acetohalobium arabaticum, gen. nov., sp. nov. Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR. 1990, 311, 745-747.
