Nelumbo lutea (American Lotus) is a species of perennial herb in the family Nelumbonaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to North America, Eastern North America, The Contiguous United States, and Canada. They have simple, broad leaves and yellow flowers. Flowers are visited by Common Eastern Bumble Bee, Notiphila unicolor, Mallota albipilis, and Agapostemon splendens. Individuals can grow to 3 feet.
