Saponaria officinalis is a species of perennial herb in the family carpetweeds. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They have simple, broad leaves and purple flowers. Flowers are visited by Small tortoiseshell, checkered white, Milesia virginiensis, and Autographa gamma. Individuals can grow to 2.2 feet.
