Dianthus barbatus (Sweetwilliam) is a species of perennial herb in the family carpetweeds. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They have simple, broad leaves and capsule fruit. Flowers are visited by Oedemera nobilis, Mallota florea, Sphaerophoria scripta, and Clouded Skipper. Individuals can grow to 0.42 m.
