They are native to Puerto Rico, Rio Grande Do Sul, Hawaii, The Contiguous United States, North America, Eastern North America, Paraná, Mata AtlâNtica, The Hawaiian Islands, Santa Catarina, Florida, SãO Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Mato Grosso Do Sul, and Bahia. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Black and Yellow Mud Dauber. Individuals can grow to 1.6 m.
