Rhamnus alaternus (Italian Buckthorn) is a species of shrub in the family Rhamnaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Ukraine, Tunisia, mediterranean region, Italy, Israel, Algeria, France, Libya, Albania, Spain, Morocco, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Yugoslavia, and Turkey. They have simple, broad leaves and fleshy fruit. Flowers are visited by Bombus terrestris lusitanicus and Scaeva selenitica. Individuals can grow to 5 m.
