They are native to Tocantins, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Espirito Santo, Roraima, Minas Gerais, Alagoas, Sergipe, ParaíBa, Santa Catarina, GoiáS, Bahia, Cerrado, SãO Paulo, Amapá, RondôNia, Piauí, Pará, Mato Grosso, Paraná, Caatinga, Distrito Federal, Amazônia, Rio De Janeiro, Rio Grande Do Sul, Ceará, Pernambuco, Mata Atlântica, and Acre (Brazil). They have simple, spine-shaped leaves. Individuals can grow to 6.1 m.
