They are native to US Minor Outlying Islands, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and The Contiguous United States. They have simple, broad leaves and drupes. Flowers are visited by Gulf Fritillary, Large Orange Sulphur, Horace's Duskywing, and Julia Heliconian. Individuals can grow to 12 m.
