Saxifraga Nelsoniana D. Don, Trans. I,inn. Soc. 13 : 355. 1822.
Leaves erect or ascending, 3-14 cm. long; blades suborbicular to reniform, 2-4.5 cm. in diameter, deeply cordate at the base, usually sparingly pubescent on both sides, coarsely few-toothed with crenate gland-tipped teeth, shorter than the more copiously pubescent, often villous petioles ; scapes erect or ascending, 4-17 cm. tall, glandular-villous especially above, terminating in a compact head usually with purple or purplish bracts ; sepals ovate to oblong-ovate, 1.5-2 mm. long, ciliate ; petals white, broadly oblong to ovate, 3-4.5 mm. long, rounded at the apex, mostly narrowed into short claw-like bases ; filaments broadly clavate ; follicles not seen.
Type locality : Cape Newnham, coast of northwestern North America. Distribution : Alaska and adjacent islands to British Columbia.
