Cenchrus polystachios (Grass) is a species of perennial grass in the family True grasses. It has a self-supporting growth form. It is native to the Hawaiian Islands, Liberia, Togo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cape Verde, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Mali, Gabon, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Malawi, Guinea, The Gambia, Ethiopia, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, India, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Ceará, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, Cerrado, Rondônia, Roraima, Piauí, Pantanal, Pará, Maranhao, Goiás, São Paulo, Mata Atlântica, Mato Grosso, Rio de Janeiro, Caatinga, Amazônia, and Distrito Federal. Grass has simple, broad leaves. It is a photoautotroph. Individuals can grow to 0.77 m.
