They are native to Western North America, Ireland, Algeria, Belarus, Afghanistan, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Israel, Pakistan, France, Kazakhstan, Morocco, China, Ukraine, Egypt, Hungary, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Germany, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Switzerland, Uzbekistan, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Syria, Africa, Albania, Denmark, Yugoslavia, Lebanon, India, Sweden, Iraq, Iran, Poland, Portugal, Bulgaria, Romania, and Spain. They have simple, broad leaves. Individuals can grow to 0.75 m.
