Scattered in oak woods and forest border. Admittedly, I took the time to photograph this because I thought perhaps it could be the rare C. verticillata, but after consulting Gleason, that was certainly not the case. This photo clearly shows two stamens per blossom; C. verticillata has four stamens in each flower.
