(Synonym of Phialina vermicularis). Lacrymariid ciliate, 80-100 micrometres in length. Body subcylindrical, pyriform or ovate in contraction. In extension, the body is 2 1/2 times as long as it is wide. Cytostome apical, atop a small swelling or snout, separated from the body by a distinct groove. Snout fringed with long cilia. Somatic ciliation fine, uniform, on spiral kineties. Single contractile vacuole, in posterior. Single macronucleus, ovate, subcentral. Fresh and salt water.
