Description: Overall yellow tan to dark brown, operculum and cheek vermiculations lavender, last dorsal rays base with saddle-like spot blue. Juvenile bright yellow, dorsal side black with stripes blue (Ref. 90102). Distinctive blue spot on top of the caudal peduncle (Ref. 1602). Adults have a bright yellow spot above the pectoral fin base (Ref. 48636). Body depth 1.8-2.0 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).

分布於西太平洋區，包括台灣、菲律賓、新幾內亞、羅雷淺灘、大堡礁、帛琉、特拉克島與密克羅尼西亞的波納佩島。台灣僅發現於綠島。

小型之雀鯛，無食用價值。有人將其作觀賞魚之用。

體呈橢圓形而側扁，標準體長為體高之1.8-2.0倍。吻短而鈍圓。口中型；頜齒兩列，小而呈圓錐狀。眶下骨裸出，下緣具極弱鋸齒；前鰓蓋骨後緣具鋸齒。體被櫛鱗；鼻部具鱗；側線之有孔鱗片16-17個。背鰭單一，軟條部不延長而略呈角形，硬棘XIII，軟條14-15；臀鰭硬棘II，軟條14-15；胸鰭鰭條17-18；尾鰭叉形，上下葉末端呈圓狀。體呈淡褐至黃褐色；頭前部具無數藍紋；尾柄背側具一藍點。背、臀鰭大半為褐色；胸鰭基部黑色，成魚基部上緣另具一黃點；尾鰭暗色。

主要棲息於潟湖與水道的枝狀珊瑚之中。單獨地或形成小群魚群生存。主要以底藻為食。
