An aquarium variant of this species with a more yellowish coloration is known as golden wonder killifish. The striped panchax inhabits fresh and brackish waters of India and Sri Lanka. It is found in streams, rivers, swamps, and paddy fields. This fish grows to a length of 10 cm (3.9 in).[2]Most male Aplocheilus lineatus measure around 7cm, but the fish can grow up to 10cm under excellent conditions, especially if brought to the end of its life expectancy, around 6 years! The species is present in two isolated populations in India.
