Purpurocardia purpurata (Deshayes 1854)

Purpurocardia purpurata is a species of mussels in the family cardita clams. They are native to New Zealand Exclusive Economic Zone. Dead Purpurocardia purpurata form shallow marine sediments. Individuals can grow to 33 mm. They have sexual reproduction. They are facultatively mobile animals.
