Alcedo atthis (Common kingfisher) is a species of bird in the family Alcedinidae. It is associated with freshwater habitat. It is found in the Indo-Malayan Realm, the Afrotropics, Australasia, and the Palearctic. It is a diurnal vertivore. Individuals are known to live for 21 years.
