Botaurus lentiginosus (American Bittern) is a species of birds in the family Ardeidae. It is associated with freshwater habitat. It is found in the Nearctic and the Neotropics. American Bittern is a nocturnal vertivore. Individuals can grow to 1072 g. Reproduction is dioecious. American Bittern has parental care (only female provides care). It relies on flight to move around.
