Botaurus stellaris (Bittern) is a species of birds in the family Ardeidae. It is associated with freshwater habitat. It is found in the Indo-Malayan Realm, the Palearctic, and the Afrotropics. Bittern is a crepuscular vertivore. Individuals can grow to 1730 g. Reproduction is dioecious. Bittern has parental care (only female provides care). It relies on flight to move around.
