The fruits are edible, with a good taste, although a bit sour, and grow directly on the tree trunk. Here close to Mueda on the Makonde Plateau of Northern Mozambique. Leaves are compound. The large fruit bunch (not yet ripe) is admired by Obet Jose Baptista. Species: Sorindeia madagascariensis, family Anacardiaceae.

Mangifera quadrifida Jack ex Wall. Anacardiaceae. CN:[Malay - Buah Asam Kumbang; Borneo vernacular names - Asam putarum, Asem kumbang, Asem paoh, Asem rawa, Baab, Damaran, Rancha rancha, Rawa-rawa biasa, Rawa-rawa pipit]. Indigenous to Malesia region lowland forests. Plant can grow to a gigantic more than 50 meters height and now quiet a rarity. Fruit flesh is yellow, with a sour but tasty flavor that is often used locally for pickles, eaten raw with chillies and prawn paste and soy-sauce. Rind purplish-mottled, resinous but easily removed using bare hands.Synonym(s):
